Located in the mountains just slightly north of the Osa Peninsula are the Fila Costena Mountains. These coastal mountains are home to Osa Mountain Village Resort and to an incredible variety of wildlife. The Osa Peninsula area is well known for its amazing biodiversity and abundant flora and fauna. The top elevation of our 759 acre private rainforest reserve is at about 3,100 feet and is best described as a coastal cloud forest. The lowest elevation of the property is at 800 feet. In between, there is mostly old growth rain forest that changes with the elevation.
There is over one mile of river to play in with several waterfalls that are between 100 and 325 feet tall. Miles of hiking trails and biking trails will keep you occupied, and for those that want to rough it or just keep their lodging costs down, we offer jungle camping in yurt dome tents for as low as $5.00 per person, per night. Eco adventure tours like waterfall rappelling and ziplines are on the property with more exciting things being planned and in the works. Already, Osa Canopy Tour has garnered a reputation as one of the best zipline canopy tours in the country.
Osa Butterfly Paradise is one of the largest butterfly enclosures in the southern zone. Take some time to discover some of the most beautiful creatures on earth… and some of their cousins in the lab. Outside the enclosure many plants that attract hummingbirds have been planted. Take a stroll around the area and enjoy.
Our beautiful pool will cool you down when it’s hot outside and Toucan Tilly’s swim up bar will keep you hydrated with whatever you love to drink. You’re welcome to play some pool or ping pong while hanging out and enjoying the music… or maybe you just want to lay in the sun with a good book. You’ll find the temperature at the resort to be much more desirable than any resorts at sea level. On average it is about 10 to 15 degrees cooler at our elevation than it is below and that difference makes an enormous difference in comfort level. Nighttime at Osa Mountain Resort is a blast with residents and guests gathering at Toucan Tilly’s for conversation and some friendly competition at the pool and ping pong tables. Toucan Tilly’s also has two flat screen TV’s to broadcast special events.
Enjoy dining at Cilantro Cafe where the menu is ever changing based on what is in season and best available ingredients from our own farm and other local growers. For a fun experience catch your own fresh fish dinner in one of our Tilapia ponds and have Ricardo at Cilantro prepare it for you however you like.
Off the property we have many fun adventures to choose from. Try whitewater rafting if it’s the right time of the year or kayaking in the ocean for a thrill. Horseback riding is another fun way to see the countryside and their are several good tours in the area. Sport fishing is one of the most popular things to do in Costa Rica and the fishing in the area is excellent. We offer deep water and off shore full and half day excursions and multi day packages.
Getting to Osa Mountain Village is easy. From San Jose you will take the new Caldera Hwy otherwise known as the toll road until you almost reach the coast where you will follow the signs to Jaco and then Quepos, and then Dominical and then you’ll almost be there. Between kilometer markers 196 and 197 on the Costanera Hwy #34 just past the entrance to Ciudad Cortes is the turn off for Osa Mountain Village Resort. You’ll see our sign and from there just follow the road and signs. We are about 6.5 kilometers off the highway. We recommend 4 wheel drive.
