Eco Adventure Vacations On Osa Mountain
Located just slightly north of the Osa Peninsula are the Fila Costena Mountains. These coastal mountains are home to Osa Mountain and to an incredible variety of wildlife. The Osa Peninsula area is well known for its amazing biodiversity and abundant flora and fauna and the Costa Ballena just north is an area with more fun activities to enjoy. The top elevation of Osa Mountain is about 3,100 feet and is best described as a coastal cloud forest. The lowest elevation is at 800 feet. In between, there is mostly old growth rain forest that changes with the elevation.
There is over one mile of river to play in with several waterfalls that are between 100 and 325 feet tall. Miles of hiking trails and biking trails will keep you occupied. Eco adventure tours like waterfall rappelling and ziplines are located nearby or on the property with more exciting things than you’ll probably have time to do, although we recommned you try to do them all. Already, the zip line tour has garnered a reputation as one of the best zipline canopy tours in the country. Butterfly Paradise is one of the largest butterfly enclosures in the southern zone. Take some time to discover some of the most beautiful creatures on earth… and some of their cousins in the lab. Located north near Uvita on Rancho La Merced it is worth your time. Outside the enclosure many plants that attract hummingbirds have been planted. Take a stroll around the area and enjoy.
The beautiful community pool will cool you down when it’s hot outside and the Rainforest Bar will keep you hydrated with whatever you love to drink. You’re welcome to play some pool or ping pong while hanging out and enjoying the relaxing music… or maybe you just want to lay in the sun with a good book. You’ll find the temperature at the resort to be better than any resorts at sea level. On average it is about 10 to 15 degrees cooler on Osa Mountain than it is below and that can make an enormous difference in your comfort level.
Nighttime on Osa Mountain is a blast with residents and guests gathering for conversation, karaoke and some friendly competition at the pool and ping pong tables. The Rainforest Bar also has three flat screen TV’s to broadcast special events. Enjoy dining at the Rainforest Restaurant where the menu is ever changing based on what is in season and the best available ingredients from our own farm and other local growers. For a fun experience catch your own fresh fish dinner in one of our Tilapia ponds and have the restaurant prepare it for you however you like. There are many fun adventures to choose from nearby. Try whitewater rafting if it’s the right time of the year or kayaking in the ocean for a thrill. Horseback riding is another fun way to see the countryside and there are several good tours in the area. Sportfishing is one of the most popular things to do in Costa Rica and the fishing in the area is excellent. We offer deep water and off shore full and half day excursions and multi day packages.
Getting to Osa Mountain is easy. From San Jose you will take the new Caldera Hwy otherwise known as the toll road until you almost reach the coast where you will follow the signs to Jaco and then Quepos, and then Dominical and then you’ll almost be there. Between kilometer markers 196 and 197 on the Costanera Hwy #34 just past the entrance to Ciudad Cortes you’ll find the turn off for Osa Mountain. You’ll see a sign and from there just follow the road signs up the mountain. We are about 6.5 kilometers off the highway. We recommend 4 wheel drive.
