Horseback Tour Of Finca Dos Rios Working Ranch

Costa Rica Horseback Riding, Costa Rica Horseback

Enjoy Costa Rica Horseback Riding At Osa Mountain Village

Explore the vivid green hillsides of Costa Rica’s southern zone on this very small and personalized guided 2-hour horseback tour of Finca Dos Rios, a working farm just below OSA Mountain Village Resort. This tour features gentle trails that wind their way through sections of forest, along the river and across the hillsides that define this charming, rural landscape overlooking the Pacific ocean.

There are several stops on this tour, which are intended to provide a unique view of Costa Rica beyond what is available on larger commercial tours. We will do our best to ensure this is an enjoyable visit for families and small groups of 4 or 5 people. In addition to seeing the large variety of trees during this ride other stops on this tour include:

The Stone Spheres of Costa Rica

The ancient stone spheres of Costa Rica were made world-famous by the opening sequence of “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” when a mockup of one of the mysterious relics nearly crushed Indiana Jones.

These objects are monolithic sculptures made by human hands. Around 300 balls are known to exist, ranging in size from a few inches to over eight feet in diameter, with the largest weighing 16 tons. The balls have been endangered since the moment of their discovery. Many have been destroyed, dynamited by treasure hunters or cracked and broken by agricultural activities.

At the time of a major study undertaken in the 1950s, fifty balls were recorded as being in situ. Today, only a few are known to be in their original locations including one on Finca Dos Rios.

Costa Rican National Tree

The Guanacaste tree is best known for its massive hemispheric crown, a cascade of greenery wider than the tree is tall. Declared the national tree on August 31, 1959, the Guanacaste is native to Costa Rica.

The tree is said to represent universal equilibrium and sacred creation, the renewal of faith, the power of Mother Nature, and the transient condition of human life. It is a symbol of stability and growth, and its strong and firm roots represent the attachment to life. Its hard trunk expresses human will and its branches are the protectors of creative peace. The tree’s canopy is associated with spiritual consciousness.

Epiphytes

There are over 30,000 epiphytes worldwide as well as numerous uncatalogued species. The term epiphytes describes a plant which, like a parasite, grows on a host, but unlike a parasite, takes no nutrients from the tree itself and relies on nutrients from the air, falling rain, and the compost that lies on tree branches.
